Their request is not consistent with evidence based infection control principals though.
N95 is indicated for aerosol precautions or aerosol generating medical procedures such as intubation or bronchoscopy.
Swab testing requires droplet precautions which does not include an N95.
N95 are/will be in short supply very soon and they absolutely are not required for covid testing.
I understand their fear, but what they are demanding is not supported by any evidence or accepted standards of occupational health.
Source: Am an Anesthesiologist in a major Canadian hospital. Will need a lot of N95s for use during true aerosol generating procedures!
